Percival is one of the youngest of Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. His father, Pellinore, was killed by Lot's family. Percival's mother, afraid for her young son's life, hid in the forest, and raised Percival away from society. Partly due to that, Percival is largely ignorant of the ways of men. Percival also doesn't remember his father, and because of that fact, combined with his innocence and his mother's warnings; Percival has distanced himself from the constant fighting between his family and the family of Lot.
